Strategic Re-Envisioning Update — July 24

Dear University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias colleagues,

Last week we asked what is the most pressing question or concern for Strategic Re-envisioning (SRE) leadership to consider. I was pleased to see that over 100 individuals responded to the flash survey. Thank you for your engagement and feedback with this process. Next week we will share those results and how SRE leadership plans to address them. We’ll also share another flash survey question.

SRE leadership has refined the initial project themes, which we’re sharing today. They include a variety of important projects, including optimizing space, academic programs, and resources; developing meta-majors; enhancing research centers; optimizing UMaine online and student support services; evaluating our performing arts spaces; a campus beautification initiative; and more. You can read about these, as well as the Provost’s Fellow assigned to each project and recommendations for faculty and staff participants, on the SRE website. Future flash surveys will seek input around these themes, allowing additional opportunities for engagement.

As a reminder, Project Director Sabrina DeTurk, Associate Director James Beaupré, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs John Volin, and Vice President for Finance and Chief Business Officer Kelly Sparks will hold their first weekly office hours for the SRE initiative from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. tomorrow. You can sign up to meet in-person at 207 Shibles Hall or via Zoom

Thank you again for engaging with this process. It continues to move forward thanks to your input and because of the work of SRE leadership.

Sincerely,

Joan Ferrini-Mundy
President
