Timely warning notification, 11/28/2023

Incident Description:

On November 28, 2023, at approximately 3:21pm, the University of Maine Police Department took a report of a robbery/assault that occurred on the Orono campus. The victim (taxi driver) stated that at approximately 12:45 a.m. he was delivering a customer to campus. The customer refused to pay the cab fare and reportedly ran from the taxi and was pursued by the driver. The driver reports being assaulted by the customer, who punched the driver in the face. The suspect reportedly displayed a knife at which time the parties separated, and the driver left the area. The driver described the customer to police as a shorter, black male dressed in a black hoodie, black pants, white sneakers with a black suitcase.

The University of Maine Police Department assessed the situation and is actively working on this case. Police remind the community to always be cautious of their surroundings and take appropriate measures to remain safe. This appears to be an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the public.
