Children’s Folk Art at the Common Ground Country Fair
September 21, 2018 - September 23, 2018| $2
Children historically have participated in the production of folk art and household crafts. Their projects functioned to fulfill multiple needs. Sometimes, their productions served to provide children with toys. Other times, household crafts and folk art taught children important skills that they would need in adulthood. Folk art was also an important part of self-expression for children, as well as adults. Come to the Museum’s booth in the Folk Art area of the Common Ground Country Fair on Friday to watch demos of some important folk arts and handicrafts for kids including doll-making and weaving. Classes are given at 10AM and 2PM on both Saturday and Sunday and last approximately one hour. On Saturday at 10:00 AM we will crochet mug rugs and at 2:00 PM we will weave a possibles bag. On Sunday at 10:00 AM we will cross-stitch a sampler and at 2:00 PM we will embroider a mini tapestry. Materials reimbursement will be charged at the rate of $2 per person.
