The Randy Alford Memorial Presentation
“Brownie the Outlaw” was the title Dr. Edith Marion Patch gave more than a century ago to her story about the Browntail Moth caterpillar whose voracious appetite and toxic hairs were plaguing Maine residents at the time. The insect has made a reappearance in Maine and seems to be working its way north, defoliating trees and irritating humans’ sensitive skin as it goes. Join University of Maine Entomology Professor Eleanor Groden and Forest Entomologist Charlene Donahue to learn how their current research is adding to our understanding of this insect pest and our capacity to monitor and control its impact on our state.
