Bike Parts

We are here to show you the different parts of your mountain bike and how they work. We hope these videos will help you learn more about your bike before you start hitting the trails.

Introduction

Getting into biking? First, get to know your bike!

Wheels

In this video we go over why the wheels of the bike are some of the most important parts of your bike, and how the front and back differ from each other.

The Seat

This video covers the parts of a seat and how to adjust the seat using the clamp on the seat post.

Brakes

This video shows and explains where the different parts of the brakes are and explains how riders use them. It covers: where the disk brake is and how it stops the bike, how disk brakes are different from normal bike brakes, where the brake levers are and how to use them, and that the left lever is always for the front brake and the right lever is for the back brake.

Gears and Chains

In this video we go over the gears and chains of the bike, where they’re located and how to change the gears on the handlebars. Some of the big takeaways of the gears on these mountain bikes are how there are two different sets of gears, one on the left handlebar is numbered 1-3, where 1 is the lowest and 3 is the highest (toughest) difficulty to petal, normally you will keep it at 2. The gears on the right side of the handlebar are more delicate and called the ‘expensive side’ they are number 1-7 and are used to get the exact resistance you want after you chose one of the larger gears (1-3) on the left handlebar. Both the chain and the gear ‘wheels’ are located on the right side of the bike below the seat and work in unison with each other. The chain is important to watch because it drives the gears and wheels to propel you forward, but can cause a problem if loose or cross chained.
