Amanda Savage, DNP, M.Ed., BSN, RN
Amanda L. Savage, DNP, M.Ed., RN, is a full-time Assistant Professor at the University of Maine School of Nursing, where she teaches across undergraduate and graduate programs. She serves as lead faculty for Adult Health III, Transition to Practice, Graduate Quality and Safety, and Graduate Innovations in Clinical Simulation and Laboratory. Her scholarship emphasizes immersive virtual reality simulation (IVRS), nursing education innovation, and supporting students and novice nurses during their transition to clinical practice. She has shared her work through publications and national presentations focused on advancing student engagement and clinical judgment.
Dr. Savage began her nursing career with a BSN from the University of Southern Maine in 2007, after earning a BS in Athletic Training from the University of New England (2001) and an M.Ed. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Maine (2003). She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Executive Leadership from the University of St. Augustine in 2020, where her doctoral project focused on reducing patient falls through purposeful hourly rounding.
Clinically, Dr. Savage brings more than 18 years of critical care and leadership experience. She worked in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Maine Medical Center before transitioning to her ongoing role as a House Manager at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she oversees hospital operations, patient flow, and clinical decision-making.
A recognized nursing leader, Dr. Savage is the Past-President of both the American Nurses Association–Maine (ANA-ME) and Sigma Theta Tau Omicron Xi at-Large Chapter. She was recently elected as a Director-at-Large for the National American Nurses Association Board of Directors (2026–2027 term). In addition, she serves as an Advisor for the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute and is an active member of ANA, AACN, AACE, NLN, and OMNL Nursing Leaders of Maine.

Beyond academia and practice, Dr. Savage is a travel basketball coach, a former Girl Scout Troop Leader, and an active youth sports volunteer. She lives in Hampden, Maine, with her husband Nate, their five children: Noah, Lexy, Anderson, Gwendolyn, and Hamilton and their dogs, Frank and Baxter.
