Centralmaine.com interviews Charney on Maine Big Night
Centralmaine.com interviewed Noah Charney, assistant professor of conservation biology at the University of Maine, on Maine Big Night, the annual phenomenon when species of amphibians migrate on warm, rainy spring nights, and volunteers help them get to their final destination. Charney helped Greg LeClair, former UMaine Ph.D. student and biologist at Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, establish Maine Big Night and the nonprofit organization named for it. “The understanding that people walk away with of what species are out there and what they need to survive, and understanding vernal pools and amphibians, I think, adds a layer of broader societal understanding and acceptance,” Charney said, “and knowledge about what is in our world and what we need to do to protect it.”
