Wolff featured in NYT obituary for a renowned American art figure
The New York Times featured Justin Wolff, chair of the University of Maine Department of Art and professor of art history, in an obituary for a renowned collector, museum curator and scholar of American art, John Wilmerding. Wolff, who was a former student of Wilmerding, spoke toward how Wilmerding helped give American art an identity in a time when it was underappreciated. “American art just didn’t hold the same sort of attention and respect that European art did, and certainly the art of the Renaissance or the old masters,” Wolff said.
