Media boost collaboration between RiSE Center, Belfast teachers
WABI (CBS 5 in Bangor) and WFVX (Fox 22/ABC 7 in Bangor) highlighted the collaboration between teachers in Belfast and the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education at the University of Maine, which was funded by a $1.35 million grant from the National Science Foundation. As part of the collaboration, Belfast Area High School students tested and built sea gliders to collect marine and ecosystem data. Kelsey Davis, a STEM education research associate at UMaine, said part of the research center’s initiative, such as with this collaboration, is to provide professional development sessions to help teachers integrate data into their classrooms in a meaningful and engaging way for students.
