Camire tapped for National Academies communication workshop
Mary Ellen Camire, professor of food science and human nutrition at the University of Maine’s School of Food and Agriculture, will speak at a National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine virtual event titled “Communication to Bridge the Gap Between Food Production and Nutrition and Health: A Workshop” on May 30 at 1 p.m.
The online workshop will explore communication issues among food producers and consumers regarding new technologies and health. It’s free to attend and the proceedings will be published. The meeting agenda and registration details are available on the National Academies’ website.
Over the years, Camire has been interviewed by many news organizations across the U.S., including Time, CNN, U.S. News and World Report, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, among others. For nearly 20 years, she served as a food science communicator for the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the nation’s largest association dedicated to the science of food. Camire also served as its president and is a fellow with the organization. Additionally, Camire is the editor-in-chief of Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, a top-ranked journal published by the institute.
