Stormer interviewed by PolitiFact on rhetoric surrounding the term abortion ‘ban’

A University of Maine professor of communication and journalism, Nathan Stormer, was interviewed by PolitiFact on the usage and history of the term “ban” in relation to abortions. Stormer, who teaches classes in rhetoric and is an expert in abortion rhetoric, said the term is most prevalent when people are referring to making abortion illegal earlier in pregnancy, like the first trimester. In the beginning of criminalizing abortion in the U.S. Stormer said “ban” wasn’t a common term. “When a restriction is being put in place where before there was not one, people tend to resort to the word ban,” he said.
