Students pack and donate 56,800 meals during Maine Day Meal Packout

Around 300 students and other volunteers at the University of Maine assembled 56,800 meals for people in need during Maine Day Meal Packout on Tuesday, April 23 in the Memorial Gym.

Maine Day Meal Packout is organized by Honors College staff and the Honors College Student Activities Board. Honors College students have been packing meals for people in need for more than a decade, and have donated an overall 675,000. Maine Day Meal Packout partnered with the New England branch of The Outreach Program to purchase the meals.

Honors College students raised over $18,000 to purchase meals this year. They will be given to food banks and pantries that serve several of the most food insecure counties in Maine, including Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo and Washington.

Currently, UMaine ranks sixth in New England for most meals packed.
