First year policy, international affairs students visit Maine State House

On Feb. 15, five first-year students from the University of Maine School of Policy and International Affairs took a field trip to the state capitol for the 2024 Nonprofit Day at the Maine State House, hosted by the Maine Association of Nonprofits.

As part of a class on public service in the nonprofit/nongovernmental organization sector, the students are currently learning the intricacies of working in the nonprofit sector, and heard from experts in their field during their time in Augusta.

The day started with networking opportunities with nonprofit organizations from various sectors around the state. Following the networking session, the students were led on an in-depth tour of the state capitol building with an opportunity to see voting in action from state legislators. Lastly, the students took part in a panel discussion on crafting and delivering legislative testimony.
