‘Focus on Abortion’ traveling visual and narrative exhibit comes to Orono
A traveling visual and narrative exhibit featuring stories from across the U.S. about abortion is debuting in Maine on Monday, Jan. 29 at the Wilson Center for Spiritual Exploration and Multifaith Dialogue in Orono.
“Focus on Abortion: Americans Share Their Stories” was created by photographer Roslyn Banish, who also published a complimentary book of the same name, to encourage discussions about abortion. The narratives featured in both are shared by people who had abortions, their partners and health professionals who provide abortion care. The exhibit, which will be available through Feb. 23, includes photos and stories from 19 of the 62 individuals highlighted in the book.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. on Feb. 4; an interfaith luncheon will be held on Feb. 8th from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; and a dinner and dialogue session will be held 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 15.
The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Wilson Center; the University of Maine’s Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies program; Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights and SHARE: Sexual Health and Reproductive Education peer education program.
