Bismarck Tribune interviews UMaine professor on Indigenous road sign translations

The Bismarck Tribune interviewed University of Maine Professor of Anthropology and Chair of Native American Programs Darren Ranco on road signs in New England now including Indigenous translations. “We have a moment where there is a search for some reconciliation and justice around Indigenous issues. The signs represent that, but by no means is that the end point around these issues,” said Ranco. The article adds that UMaine has also posted dual language signs around its campus, and UMaine Native American Programs launched a website for individuals to listen to word pronunciations.
