Whitfield named chief of staff to UMaine President Ferrini-Mundy
Meredith Whitfield, who has served in executive support roles, and external and government relations administration in higher education for the past 15 years, has been named chief of staff to University of Maine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy and a member of Cabinet, effective Oct. 18.
Whitfield comes to UMaine from Western Carolina University, where she has served as deputy chief of staff and director of external relations. Prior to arriving at WCU, Whitfield was special assistant for federal relations and research at Appalachian State University.
Her career includes legislative assistant experience in two congressional offices, and as an associate lobbyist. Whitfield holds an MBA from Appalachian State University.
“Meredith brings experience in state, federal and community relations that will benefit Maine’s research university and its regional campus, the University of Maine at Machias,” says President Ferrini-Mundy. “We look forward to her joining the President’s Office team and the support she will provide for UMaine’s leadership role statewide and beyond.”
Whitfield is relocating to the Bangor area with her husband Davis, a sculptor, and three children, who look forward to taking up ice hockey.
