WVII talks with Mech about browntail moth

WVII (Channel 7) talked with Angela Mech, a University of Maine assistant professor of forest entomology, about the browntail moth, and methods of reducing next year’s population. “Once all the leaves fall off the trees, you should look at your trees and see if you can see these clumps of kind of clustered leaves with white silk around them,” Mech said. She recommends clipping the branches holding the webs and soaking them in soapy water to reduce caterpillar numbers in the spring. WGME (Channel 13 in Portland) and MSN shared the WVII story.
