UMaine mentioned in BDN article on vigils, walks held after election
The University of Maine was included in the Bangor Daily News article, “Fearful of backlash against LGBT from Trump win, Unitarians find comfort in vigils, prayer.” The recent election of Donald Trump as president has local Unitarian Universalist church members praying that he won’t curtail the social and legal acceptance that gay and transgendered citizens say they have earned through decades of perseverance, according to the article. The members of at least five churches, including those in Augusta, Bangor, Blue Hill, Damariscotta and Portland, have gathered for candlelight vigils, prayer groups or discussions since Trump’s victory. Students at UMaine also held a walk for those who felt “victimized” by Trump’s win, the article states.
