Riess named president of history organization

Warren Riess of the UMaine history and marine science faculty has been elected president of the North American Society for Oceanic History.  The organization’s new vice president, Joshua Smith from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy faculty, received a Ph.D. in history from UMaine in 2003.  In addition, the organization recognized UMaine graduate Michael Tuttle with its “best student paper” award at its recent conference.  Tuttle, who earned a UMaine BA in history, is a Ph.D. student at Penn State.
