Gas Pipeline Construction Set to Begin

ORONO — Sometime within the next two weeks, construction crews will begin a project that involves installing approximately 1.5 miles of underground gas piping on the UMaine campus. The local natural gas utility company and its contractors will perform this work, which will extend UMaine’s use of natural gas for heating to four more campus buildings.
This work will have a temporary and limited effect on pedestrian and vehicular traffic, along with some parking. There will also be some noise associated with the work.
While the entire project will take about two months, no single area should be affected for more than approximately two weeks.
Ongoing notifications, including postings like this one and signs at affected parking lots, will be provided to the UMaine community on a regular basis.
