Offshore Wind Expert Dagher to Speak Friday Morning In Lewiston

In light of the inclement weather and our desire for everyone to travel home safely, we are closing campus today, Thursday, February 6 at 12:15 p.m. In-person and online classes beginning at that time or later are cancelled. Campus will reopen tomorrow at 5am. Only employees designated essential by Storm Day Staffing Plans should remain on campus after 12:15 p.m.

New Balance Student Recreation Center will remain open regular hours.

Hilltop, York, Wells, and Eat>Now Market dining locations will operate normally.

Fogler Library, the campus boostore, Bear Necessities Fan Shop, Package & Postal Center and Printing Services will close at 12:15 p.m.

Bears Den, Starbucks, and Quick Byte locations will close at 1 p.m., Kiwibot delivery will be unavailable after 1 p.m.

Reminder: winter parking ban is in effect.

ORONO — Prof. Habib Dagher, director of the University of Maine’s AEWC Advanced Structures and Composites Center, will provide the Friday morning keynote address at the Maine Career and Technical Education Conference.

Dagher’s talk is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. at the Lewiston Regional Technical Center on East Avenue.

Dagher, who has been a UMaine professor since 1985, has achieved international acclaim for his innovative teaching and research in fields related to composite materials and advanced structures. Much of his current work is focused on the development of technologies that will allow Maine to capitalize on clean energy opportunities in the deepwater offshore wind realm.

He plans to discuss the connection between education, including technical education, and future career opportunities in Maine. After the keynote, Dagher will continue that discussion as part of a 9:30-10:20 a.m. breakout session.
