News Center, CBS 5 report on ‘Shark Tank’ competition at MBS
WABI (CBS 5 in Bangor) and News Center Maine reported on the “Shark Tank” event at the University of Maine that took place on Friday, Dec. 13, at which six first-year Maine Business School students pitched side hustle projects. Students presented their ideas, ranging from blankets to international snacks, in front of an audience of university leaders and their peers to a panel of judges that selected three winners. The event was part of the fall 2024 Introduction to Business course; 300 students were placed into 17 groups, from which six were chosen to move forward to compete in the event for a $1,000 top prize, and second and third place prizes of $750 and $500. The contest is part of the semester-long Introduction to Business course. The introductory business course is one of many Research Learning Experiences (RLEs) offered across the University of Maine System, through which students engage in research at the start of their college career. RLEs, part of the student success and retention project, are made possible through UMS TRANSFORMS, a multi-year, System-wide initiative supported by a $320 million commitment from the Harold Alfond Foundation.
