Kimball discusses school funding and taxes with Press Herald
Ezekiel Kimball, interim dean of the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development, spoke with the Portland Press Herald for an article titled “As Maine towns balk at rising education costs, some call for sheltering the property tax.” When the federal or a state government provides funding for schools, Kimball said it’s usually issued in return for certain expectations around staffing levels, types of curricular expenditures and other things. “The main challenge is that when you get money either from the federal government or from the state government, it often comes with expectations about how that money is used, whether intentional or not, because of the way that that funding is granted,” he said.
