UMaine nursing efforts to address burnout boosted by BDN
The Bangor Daily News highlighted the efforts of the University of Maine School of Nursing to restructure their nursing program, address burnout and increase nurse retention. “The goal is to help students learn to manage stress and burnout before they graduate,” said Kelley Strout, director of the UMaine School of Nursing. “We want to produce more resilient nursing students in order to create more resilient nurses.” Students in the program live together in dedicated dorms and have access to wellness activities, like yoga and meditation. The program also prioritizes the importance of nurse educators to teach the next generation by offering an online nursing leadership program.
