Livingston interviewed by CentralMaine.com on fallen pine cones
William Livingston, associate professor in the University of Maine School of Forest Resources, provided CentralMaine.com with insight into why places in Maine have a lot of fallen pine cones on the ground. Livingston discussed several contributing factors that have led to an unusually large amount of pine cones this year in Maine, such as the white pine’s three-five year production cycle and strong wind gusts. He said people can expect to see less next fall, and the abundance will feed insects and animals, as well as contribute to the growth of new pine trees. The Sun Journal shared the report.
