Update: Ocean and Coastal Acidification in Maine project
Master’s student Parker Gassett provides an update on a Mitchell Center-funded project titled “Ocean and Coastal Acidification in Maine: Expanding Community Resilience Through Citizen Science, Outreach, and Education.” The project is led by Aaron Strong, assistant professor, School of Marine Sciences and Mitchell Center Faculty Fellow. Gassett, a dual Marine Policy/Marine Biology major, is a team member on the project.
Reports Gassett, “In the past few weeks we have presented with the Mid Atlantic Coastal Acidification Network through their webinar series—Series # 2 Webinar #1 MACAN Citizen Science Webinar, Minute 8—and, on December 13, I joined a call and presented our work with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 1 through the Regional Tribal Organizations conference call led by the EPA.” Gassett’s topic was Community Monitoring and Citizen Science.
“There has been much enthusiasm regarding this project,” Gassett notes. “Importantly, materializing for Spring, 2018, are tractable improvements for Ocean Acidification education & outreach and citizen science participation in Coastal Acidification monitoring.”
