Core 1: Administrative
Core 1 plays a crucial role in Maine-SMART by providing centralized network support to enhance team science, communication, inclusivity, and alignment with state priorities. The Administrative Core supports a centralized approach and strengthens integration and synergies across all cores by ensuring that all voices are represented in decision-making processes.

Core 2: Academic Infrastructure and Research Facilities
Core 2 will work with the Administrative Core and other stakeholders to encourage the integration of research and education, convergent research, and STEM faculty recruitment and retention.

Partners:
Core 3: STEM Education (K-16) and K-16/Workforce Readiness
Core 3 aligns many of the key partners to address statewide STEM education and workforce needs. The state’s R&D ecosystem is impacted by access to quality STEM education.

Partners:
Core 4: Economic Development and Use-Inspired
Core 4 will be led by the University Center for Economic Development (EDA Center), a collaboration of experts who will provide technical assistance and research for the implementation of the state’s 10-year economic development strategy. The existing capacity of the EDA Center will be enhanced through Maine-SMART, building synergistically on existing federal investments.
