MAIER PD Series: An OT Guide to Sensory Processing

An Occupational Therapy Practitioner’s Guide to Sensory Processing: Evidence-based Solutions for Assessment, Intervention, and Collaboration in School-Based Practice

Please note, this session is designed for Occupational Therapists. Participants will receive 6 NBCOT PDUs for attending this event. General and special educators are encouraged to consider September 29th session of the MAIER 2017-18 PD Series.

This engaging professional development session will review current research findings on sensory processing differences; their influence on occupational performance and participation; and frequently associated diagnoses. Participants will learn how to enhance their practices with occupation and evidence-based strategies for assessment and intervention as well as explore how to use sensory processing expertise to enrich collaborative relationships and strengthen problem solving.

Participants will receive 6 NBCOT PDUs for attending this event.

Speaker Bio:

Katie C. Alexander, MS, OTR/L is an occupational therapist and clinician-researcher who has presented at the state and national level. Ms. Alexander received her BS and post-professional masters from the University of Kansas Medical Center. For over 15 years, she has specialized in community and school-based intervention for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and served as the founding program director for the Model Asperger Program at The Ivymount School. Her research and clinical interests are in developing interventions and supports that improve the daily lives of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families. Ms. Alexander is a co-author of “Unstuck and On Target!: An Executive Function Curriculum to Improve Flexibility for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Research Edition” and “Solving Executive Function Challenges: Simple Ways to Get Kids with Autism Unstuck and on Target”.
