The Maine Discovery Museum helps people of all ages to discover the world around them through creative exploration and science. We accomplish this mission in a multitude of ways, including through our exhibits, programs, and partnerships with other organizations. One of the programs that advances our mission is My Day to Play (MDTP).
MDTP provides a safe, comfortable space for families with children who have disabilities, are neurodiverse, or who may be on the autistic spectrum. To ensure the best experience for these patrons, MDM is closed to the general public. MDM receives grant funding from the Penobscot Foundation for Developmental Services in support of this program, allowing us to provide this program at no charge to the families; additional support is provided by MDM itself.
MDM has been proud to offer this program for over 12 years to families throughout our region, some who travel hours to participate. MDTP helps us ensure that we are serving our whole community by removing barriers to access. For many people who take advantage of MDTP at MDM, it’s the only time that their children are able to experience the museum as a safe, comfortable environment to play and explore. Several times a year MDTP offers events with partner organizations to connect families to resources and support in the community.
