Decolonizing UMaine, with generous support from the Alton ’38 and Adelaide Hamm Campus Activity Fund, presents:
Truth, Healing and Change in Dawnland
Wednesday, February 27
Hill Auditorium, Barrows Hall
3:00-5:00 pm
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Wabanaki and Maine communities collaborated on a precedent-setting project: the Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Why was the commission necessary? What can this initiative teach us? What might be the impact on current issues in the relationship between Maine and Wabanaki people? Barbara Kates of Maine-Wabanaki REACH will speak and lead discussion. Maine-Wabanaki REACH is a cross-cultural organization working in support of Wabanaki self-determination. REACH initiated and supported the TRC process, and continues work on the TRC recommendations.
