Part of the 2017–18 Philosophy Department Colloquium Series.
Abstract: The talk presents an interpretation of Plato’s famous Cave Allegory. In its explanation of the three “turns” involved in leading the imprisoned soul from darkness to light — or ignorant enslavement to enlightened freedom — the talk will discuss specific aspects of the struggle involved in trying to save a soul (one’s own or someone else’s) with a philosophical education.
