Paul Kunoni is the author of The Breaking Spears: A Culture at Crossroads with Modernity (iUniverse, 2015), a detailed account of how his tradition and family background shaped his resolve to acquire formal education while simultaneously going through the rites of passages of the Massai, an indigenous pastoralist community in Kenya. After earning his undergraduate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi, Paul worked as an administrator in Kenya’s Ministry of Health. For over two decades, he has worked as a consultant with scientists from Kenya and the U.S. conducting field research about Massai society and culture, including the community’s continued use of traditional medicine in disease management. Paul is currently an MA in Global Policy candidate at the University of Maine School of Policy & International Affairs.
