The Department of Psychology is hosting a research colloquium featuring Dr. Jonathan Borkum. His talk, “The Migraine Attack as an Integrated Neuroprotective, Neurorestorative Process,” will be held in Hill Auditorium (Barrows Hall) at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 24. Refreshments will be provided.
Dr. Borkum is a psychologist in private practice in Waterville and Bangor and an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Maine. His book “Chronic Headaches: Biology, Psychology and Behavioral Treatment” is the standard professional work in its field. Citations of his writings are found in the headache treatment guidelines of the National Health Service of Scotland, the Canadian Headache Society, and the Swiss Society for the Study of Pain, and in the current diagnostic criteria of the International Headache Society. His theory of migraine triggers is highly cited in the neuroscience literature and has been covered in The Boston Globe.
