Mammoths lived on nearly all continents. In North America, the Columbian mammoth was well established when the wooly mammoth arrived from Siberia. By the end of the Ice Age all mammoths had gone extinct except for a relic population on Wrangle Island, which survived until about 4,500 years ago.
