Decolonizing Academic Spaces: Women of Color Speaking on Student Success, Allyship and Motherhood

Thursday, September 28
12:00 – 2:00 pm
Coe Room, Memorial Union

UMaine Women in Academia and the Women and Gender Studies will host a live stream of a panel of five Women of Color (WoC) Scholars taking place in Baton Rouge, LA. The purpose of the panel is to amplify the voices of women of color in academia and shed light to the struggles they face in academic, predominantly white spaces. One goal of the panel is to demystify the road to success for women of color by discussing the emotional and intellectual load of being a WoC and to engage in anti-racist work in academia. Finally, the panel hopes to begin to foster safe spaces within academia for WoC and White allies to foster support in academic spaces.
