Maine’s Tree Growth Tax Program
Do you know about Maine’s Tree Growth Tax Law? This program provides tax savings to forest owners like you. In a recent national survey of Woodlot owners – 60% of woodlot owners were not familiar with state tax incentives for small forest owners.
In fact, people in Maine who enroll in the Tree Growth program save an average of 70% on property taxes when their land is enrolled in the program.
This is an opportunity to keep your lands wooded! Be part of the group that conserves Maine’s forests.
Your land is eligible to participate because you have, or could have:
- A parcel containing at least ten acres of forest land
- A parcel used primarily for growth of trees, to produce forest products with commercial value.
- A forest management and harvest plan
You must file by April 1, 2025 to be eligible for the tax reduction next year. To file you must: Return your completed application, which includes a section that must be completed by a licensed forester, to your Local Tax Assessor (organized towns and cities) or the Maine Revenue Service (unorganized townships).
An application for the program can be found on the Maine Revenue Service’s webpage, accessible here.
