2018 Flagship Internship Employers

Employer Benefits of Participation:

  • Receive Flagship Internship designation: This designation can be utilized for advertising participation in the Maine Flagship Internship Program in CareerLink, on the company’s website and any marketing materials
  • Will employ students who have gone through advanced training in skills employers are seeking including professionalism, ethics/ethical behavior, communication, conflict resolution, time management, problem solving, ongoing development of empathy and resiliency.
  • Assist in bolstering the Maine economy by employing students, increasing the likelhood of students settling in the state upon graduation.
  • Foster, develop and maintain connections with the University of Maine community.
  • 1:1 attention from the Career Center and the Foster Center for Student Innovation through communication with a Career Counselor. The Career Counselor will be in contact as determined with the employer throughout the internship to assist with performance issues and evaluations.
  • Invitation to fall student showcase. This will be an opportunity to wrap up work with an intern, and meet and network with stakeholders in the Maine Flagship Internship Program.

 

Flagship Designation: Employers will participate in an application process to determine their eligibility for inclusion. To be considered a Maine Flagship Internship Program the organization should:

  • Have an established internship program.
  • Provide an interactive and inclusive opportunity for their intern.
  • Develop meaningful projects related to the student’s major, interests and capabilities.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance and direct feedback to their student intern.
  • Include the intern in company trainings, socialization and networking opportunities.
  • Provide compensation for their interns (stipend/salary, housing, tuition remission.)
  • Provide a letter of recommendation for their intern upon successful completion of internship.
  • Participate in a minimum of 2 networking events.
  • Have an established internship program in the state of Maine.
  • Be willing to pay students a minimum of $12 per hour.
