Update: Due to the extended power outage, a Red Cross emergency shelter has been opened at the UMaine Field House. The emergency shelter and the Memorial Union are available to residents of the Reserve, Avenue, Orchard Trails, Stillwater Village and Dryden Terrace. More information about the shelter is online: orono.org/DocumentCenter/View/5448

The Student Recreation Center reopens today at 10 a.m.; Fogler Library is closed until 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, Nov. 1.

Power is restored to east side of campus and expected to remain stable. West side remains without power.

To enable members of the UMaine community to address any storm-related issues they have at their homes, and to facilitate post-storm assessment and recovery on campus, classes are canceled. Only storm day personnel are expected to report. Classes are scheduled to resume at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Residential students who were evacuated elsewhere on campus have returned to their halls during daylight hours.

The evacuation was for the safety and security of our residential students. Without power, fire suppression systems are off in the residence halls and there is no illumination for emergency exits in the dark. Students were evacuated before sundown.

Updates as they become available.
