Please join us for this dynamic community event on August 5 – 7, 2025.

This virtual conference will have thematic strands, workshops, plenary sessions, community building, networking, and learning.  We will be inspired by leaders, researchers, and innovators in both library sciences and educational technology from across the United States. Come learn with us and feel empowered to innovate, create, lead.

Participants will earn contact hours/CEUs through professional development or 3 graduate credits by enrolling in either EDT 580 or LMS 580.

Igniting Student Curiosity

Plenary Speaker: Michael Hernandez

Michael is an award-winning cinema and journalism teacher in Los Angeles whose work focuses on digital storytelling, media literacy and social justice.  As an author, speaker and consultant, he helps educators empower students to find passion and purpose in their learning so that they can make a positive impact in their communities.  Michael believes in the transformative potential of technology in the classroom, and fostering an innovative mindset based on student curiosity, creativity, and passion. His presentations at conferences in the U.S. and abroad for ISTE, SXSW EDU and Apple Education focus on tech integration and innovative teaching and learning strategies. He also leads students and teachers on documentary trips to Asia and Latin America as part of an experiential learning program.

Michael was selected by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions as a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow for 2021. How to enroll:

  • CURRENT DEGREE STUDENTS can enroll the EDT 580 or LMS 580 course at  umaine.edu/portal
  • NON-DEGREE STUDENTS must complete an  online application in order to enroll in the course.   Use the code UMSUMNDAP25 to have the application fee waived.
