Josh Bohm, EES Ambassador

Concentration: Soil and Water

Why EES?

I chose EES because I have always enjoyed the outdoors, and figured I should be trained in how to be outside for a job.  I chose UMaine because it was close to home, and I could hardly think of a better school for some hands-on experiences.

What’s your favorite EES experience?

My favorite hands on experience has to be wetland delineation work down on MDI that I was able to experience through my internship.  The views were so stunning, and being able to walk along the edge of undisturbed peatlands and upland moss beds right by the coast was a very surreal experience.

Your favorite class?

My favorite UMaine class so far is probably Soil Science, because of how many different professionals in the field I was able to ask questions.

What’s a tip for future EES students?

My best wisdom is to find a professional in a field you are interested in, and send them an email.  Whether you want to inquire about internships, or just ask them questions about their work its going to benefit you.  At worst you got your name out there, and at best you can secure a paid summer internship right away during your freshman year.
