Emily Anderson, B.S. 2016
Emily Anderson is an EES alumna who graduated in 2016 with a B.S. in Ecology and Environmental Science. During her undergraduate career, she worked as a research assistant, which allowed her to study a diverse range of species and ecological systems, from sharks to forests to invasive species. Anderson was an Honors College student, and her honors thesis focused on endangered bat habitat in an experimental forest. Her thesis helped her realize how much she enjoyed engaging people in science. After graduating, Emily worked at a local land trust, which enabled her to further explore Maine’s natural resources.
Since her time at the University of Maine, she has worked in environmental education, volunteered on organic farms around the United States, and completed a Master’s degree in environmental law and policy at the Vermont Law School. Currently, she is serving as an ECO AmeriCorps member at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies (VCE) in Norwich, Vermont. Her main projects focus on citizen science, specifically teaching people how to use iNaturalist and encouraging citizens to participate in biodiversity monitoring projects across the state. Anderson’s most recent project has been helping VCE’s Vermont Atlas of Life team launch a project focused on rediscovering some of Vermont’s lost native Lady Beetle species.
