Basel White

Basel is a masters student in the CompuMAINE Laboratory studying Biomedical Engineering. Basel grew up in Jefferson, ME and received his Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Maine this past Spring, in which he also graduated as a member of the honors college and with a minor in Mathematics. He is a member of the breast cancer project and his research focuses on both improving and comparing the performance of the Two-Dimensional (2D) Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima (WTMM) methodology and a given power spectrum analysis in the extraction of the roughness, Hurst (H), exponent from grayscale mammograms. These methodologies are proven in the CompuMAINE Laboratory and contribute towards identifying possibly cancerous tissue in the human breast. His work is based in the programming languages of R and the TCL program called XSmurf; however, Basel has a strong background in the image analysis software FIJI and experience in the programming languages of Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, and C.  In his free time, Basel enjoys listening to music and longboarding.
