The goal of “Mind” is to empower the individual to talk to their healthcare provider if they notice any changes in their mood or memory and to get screened for memory issues every year.

Brain Health

Being proactive about our brain health can help to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and improve wellbeing. The Alzheimer’s Association published tips for healthy habits that can support brain health and provides information about the importance of diet, exercise, and social connection in maintaining a healthy brain.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia

If you would like to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, the Alzheimer’s Association has a training titled Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia that talks about the risk factors, the disease process, and therapies that are available. The training is free, but requires logging into the Alzheimer’s Association website.

Caregiver Education

If you are a caregiver for a person with dementia, Maine has many resources that can help with providing information and building caregiving skills to help support you. Healthy Living for ME publishes a list of caregiving trainings offered in the state of Maine including Building Better Caregivers and Dealing with Dementia. Topics covered in these trainings include how to provide personalized care for your loved one, communication, and dealing with stress as a caregiver.
