Professional Development - Geographic Lens on the World: The Geography of Canada

Registration open until June 15th!

Online Professional Development
for K-12 Teachers of Geography

Geographic Lens on the World:
The Geography of Canada

June 17th-August 16th, 2013
First assignments due July 1st!

Using the Geography for Life 2nd edition as a guideline for teaching geography thinking skills, and using the study of Canada’s geography as the content, this online course will enable participants to acquire a mental map of Canada, and to gain practice in asking and answering geographic questions.

Through an engaging exploration of video presentations, readings, maps and websites, participants will acquire information and ideas to write inspired activities building towards the final project of creating two lessons based on teaching the skills of a geographer. Participants will collaboratively create an annotated list of websites and will have access to all the lessons created.

Open to any teacher, no prerequisites.

See Syllabus for complete course details.

Costs and Fees:

Participation fee: $50 paid to the Canadian-American Center through an on-line store (click shopping cart on this page).
Participants will receive a Clock Hour Certificate (CEUs awarded to Maine teachers).

We are arranging for graduate credit to be offered at an additional cost of approximately $205/credit, and you can indicate when you register if you would like more information about this option.  This price per credit is offered to participants from any State.

Once you register (via the shopping cart link) we will send you an email with information about the graduate credit option, as well as the url of the online platform plus a key code to enter and sign yourself into the course.
