BDN Editorial on Lobsters Cites Wahle, Pershing

The Bangor Daily News March 14 editorial “Maine’s lobster industry might not last forever. Then what?” quoted two University of Maine faculty members. Rick Wahle, a research professor at the School of Marine Sciences, cited the movement of lobster postlarvae from more southern waters to Down East as evidence of warming ocean temperatures. Andrew Pershing, an associate professor and chief scientific officer of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, said since 2004, the surface water temperatures in the Gulf of Maine have increased faster than 99.85 percent of the global ocean.
