Judy Hakola of the University of Maine English Department faculty joined host Keith Shortall and writer Jaed Coffin of the University of Southern Maine English Department faculty for a Maine Public Broadcasting Network “Maine Calling” discussion about what it means to be a true “Mainer.” Hakola said many people from outside the state have flawed perceptions of Maine natives, and cited a recent article she read that called bustling coastal communities like Bar Harbor “quaint.”
