Sustainability Education - Undergraduate
The Mitchell Center works closely with the University of Maine’s Ecology and Environmental Sciences Program (EES) to provide an undergraduate curriculum that includes a sustainability concentration, “Sustainability, Environmental Policy, and Natural Resource Management.” The curriculum recently received final approval by the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture and is in the process of being implemented. This new concentration reflects a number of newly available courses and a growing interest of the student population in sustainability science.
Many Mitchell Center and Sustainability Solutions Initiative teams have opening for undergraduate researchers. Please contact project team leaders in your area of interest for more information and to inquire about research positions. Opportunities are also advertised through UMaine’s Career Center.
In addition to the many internship opportunities advertised through UMaine’s Career Center, the EES program offers sustainability-related internships with Maine consulting firms through its internship program. Such practical experience complements lessons from the classroom, the laboratory, and field-based learning. Internships are posted on the EES website as they become available.
