Thomas MacLeod, Storyteller
Thomas MacLeod was born in New Brunswick in the late-1800s and worked as a logger and river driver in Maine for forty years. He recounted his work experience in incredible detail, right down to the very construction of all the equipment they used. He was also able to recall many songs from the lumbercamps, including several by Joe Scott and Larry Gorman. In part, his ability to remember these details were aided by his efforts to record some of the history he had lived. He wrote many articles about the history of logging and the St. Croix Paper Company (which built and operated a mill in Baileyville for many years, and the mill still operates under a different owner) in a now defunct local newspaper, The St. Croix Observer.
