2025 Orff Level 1 & 2 Music Teacher Training

August 4-15, 2025 • In Person at the University of Maine

Join the University of Maine this summer for a two-week, interactive course that provides an introductory and in-depth study of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music and movement education. The American Orff Schulwerk Association has approved this course, which results in Level 1 or 2 certification by AOSA.

With specific applications for general music in grades K-8, topics include movement and musical skill development (singing, speaking, creative movement, and playing percussion instruments and recorder).

Participants may attend the institute for 3 credits or professional development for 60 contact hours/6 CEUs. Candidates will complete a registration form and enroll in MUE 650 (graduate course) or MUS 298 (undergraduate course).

  • Course Description: This two-week, interactive course provides an introductory but in-depth study of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music and movement education. Intended for in-service music educators, it emphasizes the Orff process as demonstrated and experienced through a range of creative activities and assignments during 60 contact hours. With specific applications for general music in grades K-8, topics include movement and musical skill development.   • Course: MUE 650 0801: Topics in Music Education (Graduate – Level 2)
  • Course Description: Anyone who has completed Level 1 Orff Teacher Training is welcome and encouraged to take Level 2. It includes further development in movement, improvisation, and the introduction of alto recorder. Rhythmic work will include the exploration of changing and uneven meters. Major and minor modes are included, in addition to pentatonic and hexatonic scales. Building upon the skills developed in Level 1, students will observe and experience the pedagogical process of Orff-Schulwerk, and will have the opportunity to discuss classroom experiences that have occurred since completion of Level 1. This course is approved by the American Orff Schulwerk Association, and results in Level 2 certification by AOSA.
