Dr. Joseph Ortiz, Workshop Presenter

Joseph Ortiz is a Professor of Earth Sciences at Kent State University. He is an expert on climate change, sedimentology, environmental visible remote sensing, and energy and sustainability. As a climate scientist with expertise in paleoclimate, he has grown increasingly interested in the future impacts of human-induced climate change. As a​ result, his work has become more applied. He now spends much of his research on environmental issues, such as remote sensing of harmful algal blooms, and consideration of adaptation and mitigation efforts to reduce emissions and minimize future climate change impacts. His presentation will focus on EV adoption as a means of reducing climate change impacts. Teacher-participants will explore discussions about potential barriers to EV adoption and use excel as a tool to quantify differences in operational costs of EVs vs. internal combustion engine vehicles.
